The President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, who is visiting Berlin, confirmed this Friday (27) his country's position in the war of Russia vs Ukraine, stating that Rome seeks a solution to the conflict, even though peace does not mean submission to the enemy.

“We are seeking an end to this reckless Russian adventure against Ukraine, but peace does not mean submission and abandonment of the principles of dignity of each country and international law,” declared the Italian head of state.

Mattarella's statement was reinforced by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. "Germany and Italy stand by Ukraine," he assured.

The statements are in line with the stance taken by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni last Tuesday (24), when she met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, on the sidelines of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York, guaranteeing the support of her government, which is leading the G7 in 2024, to Kiev, both for defense and reconstruction.
