Italians in Spain ask for efficient consular service and cite Brazil

Italian community in Spain launches online petition calling for an efficient consular service

The infamous "Prenota Online" system – for scheduling appointments for Italian passports at Italian consulates and other consular services – which has been the target of criticism and complaints in Brazil, has gained a new ally.

In Spain, the group “Italiani a Barcelona” launched a online petition which calls for an efficient consular service.

In their claim, the Italian community in Spain even mentions Brazil, saying that they found that the consular service works perfectly in the country, and that the services of the Italian consulates are guaranteed to Italian-Brazilians with a waiting time of less than a month.

I'm mistaken. The “Prenota Online” system, nesting on the FastIT platform – which is fast in name only – is criticized around the world, especially in Brazil.

The system is used by the Italian Consulate in the vast majority of countries where it has a presence, but always with complaints.

Services such as recognition of Italian citizenship, legalization of documents, issuance or renewal of passports, visas, among others, require prior online scheduling. The program operates from Sunday to Wednesday, always at midnight Rome time.

In Brazil, companies specialized in scheduling and created a mechanism that circumvents the scheduling system. They promise the position within a week and charge between R$300 and R$2500.
