Domenico Fornara will be the new Consul General of Italy in São Paulo. In February, he will take up the position of Filippo La Rosa, who returns to Rome.
Born in Belgrade on November 29, 1968, he graduated in economics and commerce from La Sapienza University, from Rome, and began his diplomatic career in 1998.
After joining the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he worked in the General Directorate for Economic Cooperation and in the Coordination Unit of the General Secretariat and, in 1999, he was sent to the Embassy in Albania during the Kosovo war.
Between 2001 and 2004, Fornara was responsible for commercial and cultural relations at the Italian Embassy in Libya and, for the next four years, he directed the office of humanitarian and migration affairs at the country's permanent representation at the United Nations (UN) in Geneva.

From 2008 to 2010, he worked at the General Directorate for Multilateral Political Cooperation and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the office for the G8 political agenda and international counter-terrorism cooperation.
Between 2010 and 2011, he directed the office for relations with Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean; Between 2011 and 2015, he was deputy head of Italian diplomatic mission in Senegal. For the next four years, Fornara was ambassador to Uganda.
He was then responsible for scientific and technological cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 2019 and 2021, the year in which he also taught scientific diplomacy in the master's degree in international relations at the Free University Maria Santíssima Assunta, in Rome.

Married and with two children, Fornara will take the place left by Filippo La Rosa, who was consul general in São Paulo for about three and a half years and served in Brazil for eight years and four months. (With information from Handle)
