Previously, to join the waiting list, you had to send the document by mail.
The change was scheduled to come into effect on January 20th of this year, but was only announced this Thursday (11th).

SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION FOR RECOGNITION OF ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP
- Fill out the application, by hand or typed, and sign it with a blue or black pen.
- Scan the APPLICATION and send it, by email, together with a valid identity document, with a legible signature (the same as the one made on the application) to the email: [email protected] (this is the only email address intended for this function. If the request is sent to another address it will not be taken into consideration).
The object of the email must be the FULL NAME of the applicant and the words “APPLICATION 2020".
The body of the email must include:
- ITALIAN ASCENDANT NAME/DANTE CAUSE;
- FULL NAME OF THE APPLICANT;
- THE Acronym WITH THE INITIALS OF THE APPLICANT'S FIRST AND SURNAME;
- THE DATE OF BIRTH WITH DAY/MONTH/YEAR FORMAT;
- ANY MINOR CHILDREN.
The requirement is INDIVIDUAL, that is, each applicant of legal age (18 years old) must send their own email. Any minor children must be indicated in the corresponding field of the parent's form. Children born after the application is submitted will be considered automatically included in the application.
After 180 days from the date the email was sent, it will be possible to check the application number on the waiting list, which will be published with the applicant's initials and date of birth, as stated in the body of the email sent to us.
Email requests regarding possible application numbers will not be responded to.
Delivery of documentation for recognition of Italian citizenship (proof of payment and civil registration documents, translated and apostilled) will only be made when summoned to present at the Consulate, following the methods indicated on our website.
We emphasize that this consulate is currently summoning applicants who submitted an application in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
